World Roaming SIM activation & FAQs
Visit portal to activate Roaming SIM here
Existing activated SIMs wanting to add credit - login here
Firstly go to: http://www.roamingsim.com.au/Services/Activate.aspx
To start the activation process for your RoamingSIM.
Enter the 19 digit SIM number (under the barcode on the front of your roaming SIM).
Enter a contact number (just your normal mobile phone number).
Enter your email
Re-enter to confirm correct email address.
Then click 'Activate'
Enter your name and address
Set what password you would like
Re-enter password to confirm it.
Set preference details.
Click 'Submit' (wait a few moments while it submits)
It should then show a screen with a green bar saying thankyou for registering and ask you to select your device so they can send internet settings to your phone.
I selected iPhone 4S for my phone, but I don't believe this is a critical step, as I actually didn't end up receiving any settings - but do it just in case.
Once selected there is then a page showing your number (this is you RoamingSIM number), and click 'Get Settings'
A screen then shows an install guide to setting your APN.
I will cover in more detail and screenshots (from my phone), on how to do this.
If you click 'Dashboard' on your left - it will show your balance, any plans or numbers applied to the roaming SIM.
Before inserting the SIM, if you are using a smart phone please beware that it will use data in the background & unless a data pack is applied, the roaming SIM can charge a high casual rate (you first have to turn data roaming on on your settings though).
So if you plan to test data MAKE SURE you apply a data pack.
The other thing to remember is that the data packs expire - so when you add a data pack, it will start the set number of days you have to use that pack.
I would recommend applying the pack a few days before you depart.
This means you will have data when you land (remember to set APN & turn on data roaming ..see more below). Otherwise it is also fine to purchase the data pack when you arrive, but you will need to find a Wifi hotspot, and it might be tricker to do so on the run.
To buy a data pack - click 'Add Bundle'
Then click the tab you wish - the 'Global' bundle is very popular for its coverage of countries, so in this case select the 'Global' tab (see below).
Select the data bundle you want.
As mentioned above there is a range of bundles, depending on data size and expiry of days it is valid for. Just add it to cart.
It then takes you to the 'Cart' , but if you also want some credit (for general calling and SMS) you can select 'My Account' up in the top right and it will take you back to the dashboard where you can select a few more things before you 'Checkout'...or just check out if this is all you require.
Select 'Add Credit' on the left hand menu.
Select from the drop down the amount you want.
Remember that this is for calling and SMS credit only - it can't be used for the data bundles, they have to be purchased separately in 'Add bundle'.
Now checkout and enter your Credit card details.
You can also choose to pay with Paypal (thats what I did in this example).
Note your address details should be prefilled.
Check all the details are correct and process - for my Paypal transaction it then took my to the Paypal portal to login and pay.
You should then get a screen saying your order has been received to and click continue shopping (to see the other details in the portal, or alternatively log out).
If you now want to put your SIM in your phone, you will notice it might say 'SIM locked' - just click 'unlock'. You should enter the SIM PIN which is '0000'
Enter: 0000 and then press OK
If you are planning to use data and have added a data pack, you should turn on roaming and also set the APN settings.
On an iPhone, go to 'Settings' > 'Cellular' > (turn on data roaming while there) then press 'Cellular data network' ... sometimes (like what happened for me) some data settings automatically loaded for Vodafone. Erase them and enter the correct APN.
The correct APN setting are:
then press cellular (in top left)
For Android users, there is a slightly different process to do the same thing.
Go to Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
If no APN is available select the menu icon in the top right hand corner and select +New APN and type in the APN (ie.
Trouble shooting - one of the most common errors is not getting a signal at all. This could be that Vodfone is not giving any signal in your area. Try going to Settings > Carrier > switching off 'Automatic' and forcing it to select a carrier that is showing up.
Also turning your phone on/off is always a good thing to do, as this refreshes all the network settings.
Another major problem is people not having their phone properly unlocked. More detail on that here, but basically your phone won't connect to any signal (shown in the top left), and you need to contact the network who you bought your phone off.
I also received a SMS saying I only need to dial *120# at an stage to see my balance. There is a few other handy numbers with the guide including tech support in Australia which is:
03 9001 5540
You can also add a local number to your SIM - this means people can ring a local Aust number (lots of other to choose from to), and it will ring through to your SIM. beware this costs extra per month.
There is also the option to check your call history.
Data used at casual rates is billed in sessions using your balance which you can see here, along with calls and SMS
There is also an Auto-top-up option to automatically have some credit added if it gets too low. Use at your discrection.
There is a summary of the numbers you have on the SIM (if you added more than one number). Note the +44 UK based one is the standard one which comes for free.
There is also the option to send a SMS through this online portal for AUD$0.06

A Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) is a removable smart card for mobile phones that use the GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) mobile network. The SIM card allows users to change phones by simply removing the SIM card from one mobile phone and inserting it into another mobile phone.

How much will it cost family and friends to call me on my RoamingSIM Plus?
Your RoamingSIM comes with a UK mobile number (+44....) which is also your SMS number.
Rates to call this number depend upon the chosen telecom provider and, as rates vary we are unable to provide you with an accurate answer. If you have a local Australian number attached to your RoamingSIM, this is the best way for friends and family to contact you at the lowest rates. It is also the lowest cost way to divert you existing mobile. Costs for this are also determined by your telecom provider. Australian local numbers are available to purchase at a nominal monthly fee.
If you are not using the local number facility, then often the best way for family and friends to contact you is by using a low-cost calling card to dial your international mobile number.
Please note text messages must be sent to the +44 UK phone number as you cannot text a landline number.
To dial the local number you MUST include the Area Code (STD) or it will not connect e.g. to dial a Victorian landline number you must dial 03 before the rest of the number, NSW you must dial 02 before the number etc.
NOTE: The landline number is free for the first month and $8 p/month thereafter but you do not need a landline number for the SIM to work
How do I use voicemail?
Your RoamingSIM provides a voicemail service. Dial 333 and press "call". The default voicemail pin is 0000 which can be changed. Your mailbox number is your RoamingSIM international number (drop the +).
TIP: You can also dial into your voicemail by dialing +4479 3739 8010 (or 00 4479 3739 8010) and entering your mailbox number in the format of 00 4479 xxxx yyyy. You will then be asked for the password which is 0000. (You can do this from any phone i.e. access remotely).
RoamingSIM Plus DATA usage:Our SIM's are dual purpose so you can use for voice calls and for data. You can send emails, download documents/files or surf the web. Can I use DATA in Australia?

It is best to just use in Australia to set up and test your SIM before travelling. Refer to RATES schedule. TIP: When testing in Australia, manually select Vodafone to ensure you are accessing the cheapest available rates.
Why is a RoamingSIM better than me using my current provider and their international Data Roaming Bundles/Rates?
You will save $.
International data roaming (this is when you use your local providers SIM) gets very expensive when you utilise your current data rates when roaming. RoamingSIM offers great data bundles for UK and E.U. countries (if you do not choose a bundle for these countries the data rate will default to the casual rate which is still highly competitive). Casual PAYG Rates are available for all other countries where we have coverage. Always check the rates in each country before using. Purchasing a RoamingSIM Plus for Data usage also doesn't lock you into a contract so you only use as required.
What type of DATA device can the SIM be used with?
You can use the sim with any GSM enabled device that supports data. This includes Smartphones, iPADs and LapTop computers.
Ensure you have the APN settings correct.
Note that Blackberry email may not fully work although internet browsing will.
-This SIM is not ideal to be used with a hotspot device (like these), due to the PIN locking feature. It is more suited to be used in phones.
What is an "unlocked" Mobile Broadband Stick?
"Unlocked" means you can use any Data SIM and the stick is not locked to any one carrier.
What is a DATA Bundle?
A data bundle is likened to a package of data where you pay a tariff for predetermined usage amounts e.g. RoamingSIM Plus offer a UK bundle for $7.90 for 250 MB rather than paying a casual rate p/MB. The tariff charged usually decreases the larger the bundle you have opted for. Choosing a data bundle can substantially bring down the cost of using data whilst roaming.
What are Pay As You Go (PAYG) / Casual DATA Rates?
These are the low rates we have negotiated for you and are charged per Megabyte. Check RATESpage for details.
How do I apply a Data Bundle to my account?
You can add a bundle through your Account section of the website. The bundles will be purchased separately and added in addition to your standard credit pool that is used for voice, SIM and casual data.
How do the UK Bundles work?
If you are staying in the UK it is well worth purchasing a UK Bundle. This will allow you access to exceptional data rates (check the RATES page for details). The UK Bundles will have an expiry of 30 days and come in a variety of packages depending on your intended data usage.
How does the UK Lite Bundle Work?
For simplicity and certainty when you are in the UK we also have a UK Lite Bundle available. This package gives you a combination of 100MB, 200 mins talk time and 300 texts for $36.25. Please note this is for usage in the UK only and has an expiry of 14 days.

Once you use up the 300 texts, all further text usage will be rated at the flat rate tariff located on the RATES page. Once you use up the 100 MBs you will be obliged to purchase one of the data bundles from the flat rate tariffs.

Euro Daily Pass– 30 MB for $11.90

What if I don't want to purchase a DATA Bundle?
If you do not purchase a Bundle for the applicable Bundle countries your rates will automatically defer to the casual rates displayed on our RATES page.

You may apply for a refund under the following circumstances:
