Thailand Prepaid SIM card information and activation
Detailed info for Thai Prepaid SIM
We no longer stock the AIS SIM. Comparing the AIS SIM against the other Thai SIM we stock the 'Thai Happy Tourist SIM' from dtac (see more detail here), customers had a much better experience with Happy Tourist SIM, with the major advantage of it being preloaded and ready to roll with 7 days on data on arrival. We have plenty of the Thai Happy Tourist SIM in stock, see more info here.
Having a local Thai SIM, a good summary of how to use it and add credit to it can be very helpful to a traveller heading to Thailand. Have it all sorted before you go and make sure you can easily get connected without the hassle of sorting it all out in a foreign currency and language.
This SIM comes pre-loaded with ฿15 of credit.
Being a prepaid SIM, it requires credit to make calls or add call/data packs before you can use it.
Add a data pack to your Thai SIM card (see below), before attempting to use the internet. Initially disable data on your phone; Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > OFF - otherwise it will use your credit for data at the more expensive casual rate.
You must have an unlocked and network compatible phone.
When this guide refers to 'dialling' a code- it means entering that code on your keypad, and then pressing enter/call to 'action' it (eg dial *139# enter to check your balance).
We have all SIM sizes available (Mini, Micro, and Nano - check your size here)
We do not activate the net sim before shipping. You can receive phone calls/messages as soon as it is activated but you will not be able to make calls or use internet until you add credit.
Making a local call when you arrive activates the SIM (no other registration or details required). One way is to activate the sim by dialling *120 enter/call and press 2 for English when prompted, then press 2 again when asked what language you want your messages to come in, then hang up (sets your SIM to English).
It is not possible to use this SIM before you arrive in Thailand.
To activate international roaming dial *125*1# enter. You will receive a confirmation message within a few minutes (must be enabled in Thailand first).
Thailand uses 900/1800 MHz bands. Make sure your phone/device uses these bands . Make sure your phone/device is unlocked. If not sure, consult your local phone shop before you leave home.
It was reported by one customer that his phone took an hour to begin working after initially turning the phone on in Thailand. This may have happened because multi-band phones automatically adjust to the correct band and on this one occasion it may have taken some time for this adjustment to be completed.
You can buy more talk time credit at any convenience store like 7-11 or any of the little phone shops you will see everywhere. To buy 300 Baht credit just say " one two call top up , saam-loee-baht" . They will give you a print out slip with a pin number on it. To add the credit dial *120* then the PIN number then # then send/enter. Or you can use the on-line machine at the 7-11, the clerk will show you how to use it.
The best option is to add the credit in Thailand (cheaper and simple), but if you were desperate to have credit preloaded contact us along with providing your Thai number (on the SIM)- ~AUD$30 for ฿500 of credit.
- Dial *120* (16 digit PIN)# to add credit
- Dial *121# to check how much talk time you have left.
- Dial *139# to check internet balance
- Dial * 777 to change your promotion
- Dial *141 and follow the prompts to set up your voicemail

MAKE & RECEIVE CALLS
The Thai calling code is +66, so for someone outside Thailand calling/SMS’ing your Thai number, they must add +66 or dial: 0011 66 …
[ note that the first 0 of your local number is dropped when calling from outside of Thailand]
To call overseas/Australia from Thailand dial: 004/007/008/009 or 001, (then 61 for Aust), then the a) area code and local number , or b) mobile number (remember to drop first 0). 004/007/008/009 are much cheaper options but may be busy and may have lower connection quality especially during peak usage hours. You may have to use 001.
