Well now we have one more nifty gadget to add to the list!
We stumbled across NomadPlus the other day, which is the latest product from electronic design house Nomad.
They already have a few great products like a compact charging cable that fits on your key ring and one that also acts as a clip, but NomadPlus seems to take the cake in terms of a 'must-have' travel (and everyday) accessory.
It is really one of those 'why didn't I think of that' products - simple yet effective.
So what is it?
Basically its just a case that your existing iphone charger plug, plugs into but allows it to hold charge when you don't have a power point to plug it into.
It charges the device first, then charges up its internal battery to hold charge for later.
The genius lies in having an ever charged backup battery.
As I covered in the portable battery charging options post - there is no shortage of options out there of batteries that come in all shapes and sizes, but a backup battery is only useful when its charged. When you are on the road and using it every day, it isn't that hard to forget to recharge it up, or not have a plug to recharge it (thats what a power board and USB hub is for!).
So NomadPlus just fits into the process of charging you primary device, and giving you a secondary backup for later - what else can it do for me? Not much, but that is part of the simplicity
1500mAh battery which is roughly enough to charge an iPhone 70%
5v/1A which is only suited for iPhones (not iPad charging)
LED status which shows how much charge is left
US only compatible, so only compatible with plugs from the US.
Looks like they are gauging interest from the EU and UK, with a signup form at the bottom of the page.
What else we would like to see
Well obviously number one on that list would be Australian plug compatibility!
I also think iPad 2A would be handy, along with having twin USB outputs.
Regardless, this looks like a handy little innovation and will hopefully inspire a few others in this area that might also cater for the Australian market someday soon!
