Excess baggage fees!
No one likes that sinking of the heart feeling when you get to the checkin desk and you see those little red numbers flash up and over your weight limit!
Now a great place to start is by packing light and not buying too many stone statues that weigh 40 kgs, but that is great in theory, we have all walked the fine line at some stage and pleaded for mercy at the hands of the lovely checkin staff. You just have to hope they don't work for Ryan Air, which makes a mint out of stinging people for stuff like that!
A small set of electronic luggage scales will set you back less than $20 and could save you big time. Obviously pretty straight forward to operate, and maybe worth paying a little extra for quality so as to not have them break on you half way through your first trip.
The man below is taking the idea of wearing his baggage to the limits and designed the carry all jacket. Not sure what the airlines actually think of the idea, but I like his effort! On close inspection there actually seems to be an entire industry dedicated to this, with a full review of these type of jackets written up by the good folks at SkyScanner here. Jaktogo seems to hold the most, with the least style! But hey beats paying excess baggage!
