AT&T SIM - data & help guide
iPhone & Android Data Settings
There has been several reports that this step is not required anymore, I have left up the details just in case.
If your phone automatically detects the settings (and data works) you should leave these as they are. If you need to enter settings the following are all the settings for the AT&T PAYG Plan.
Normally the settings will auto load, if not try turning the phone fully off/on.
If that doesn't do trick, then you may need to set APN.
Phone device APN: phone (no username/password)
Broadband device APN: broadband (no username or password)
old ATT APN: wap.cingular
Settings > Mobile > Mobile data options > Mobile data network > (set APN)
Manual data settings (for Android users who can’t use the two steps below)
Android: Settings > Wireless&networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Menu Button > New APN
[Full android settings below]
(no user ID, password or proxy needed)
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Server: leave blank
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MNC: 410 (note. this could also be 310, 41 or 15)
APN Type: leave blank
This is no longer required due to changes in AT&T settings and latest iPhone iOS, but I have left for reference anyway.
If you need to override this settings you have two options:
NB. You only have to do one of them!
1. Visit Unlockit Website
The simplest method is find a free WiFi Hotspot you can download a pre-prepared APN directly to your iPhone by visiting http://www.unlockit.co.nz in the phone’s web browser (Requires you to be connected to a WiFi network).
-Country: US AND
> Create APN
Then install it.
Alternatively you can use Apple Configuration Utility to change the APN manually.
Should automatically take you to the install screen.
2. Create your own configuration profile
If you would prefer to do it yourself, the following is a tutorial to create the APN that uses only Apple tools. If you would like further information we encourage you to read the full instructions and comments available here.
Step one is to create a USA configuration profile on your iphone.
1. Download and install iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple (free) for your PC/MAC
2. Plug your iPhone to your PC/Mac
3. Create a new configuration profile on the iPhone Configuration Utility
4. Go to “advance” and create a new APN by giving it any name you want and any identifier you wish. Type the following in the relevant fields:
User Name: firstname.lastname@example.org
Proxy wireless.cingular.com port: 80
5. Save the profile or click on your iphone name under “devices”
6. Click on “install” button near the configuration profile name you just created
That’s it! now you can disconnect your iphone and your it should be able to access the web using the network data connectivity, same as the Android or any other device can do with the same SIM card.
When you want to go back to your old SIM, just place it in and go to your settings on your iPhone and uninstall the profile. Or you can use the configuration utility to remove, what ever works better for you.
